R&D

Proteomika aims to become a leading developer of in-vitro diagnostic products through the use of biomarkers.

In order to reach this objective a highly specialized and versatile R&D structure is necessary.

Our R&D projects are directed at serving unmet needs for improved diagnostic tools. Research is centered on the identification and validation of protein biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of complex diseases, in order to provide medical specialists with tools that are both, easy to use and to interpret, that provide benefits for the patient and improved healthcare outcomes.

Our R&D philosophy is that our products should meet the clinical needs of the medical community. Proteomika has focused on the fields of oncology and gynecological medicine in order to provide tools for doctors enabling them to better serve their patients.

Applied research is the underlying ethos of our activity. With this in mind a large part of our efforts are focused on the proteomic analysis of biological samples that can be obtained non-invasively or using minimally invasive approaches. Diagnostic tests developed by Proteomika are based on samples such as urine, serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage, and endometrial aspirates (depending on the disease being studied) in order to cause minimal inconvenience and discomfort to patients.

Proteomik´s R&D follows a similar path in all projects. Initially the identification of candidate biomarkers is perfomed using differential proteomic studies using approaches such as 2DE and NAPPA. Next, validation studies of these markers is performed using extremely accurate immunoassays based on ELISA or xMAP technologies. Finally, the diagnostic test prototypes are subject to large-scale clinical validation prior to their introduction into routine clinical practice.
